Walter Antoszyk, 94 of Butler passed away on June 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born February 5, 1923 in Arnold City, PA, he was the son of Ukranian immigrants Martin Antoszyk and Kateryn "Katherine" Kuseryk Antoszyk

Walter was a crane operator at Allegheny Ludlum Steel for 32 years. Upon retirement, he was able to pursue his love of the outdoors when he and his wife opened Walter's Floral shop and Greenhouses and Antoszyk Landscaping and Nursery in Butler. He was instrumental in the construction of the first Butler High School football field when he and his team landscaped the field and layed all the sod on the new field.

Mr. Antoszyk was a member of the St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora and the Greek Catholic Union Walter was so proud of his service in the US Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class aboard the U.S.S. Brooklyn CL-40, a light cruiser in the Mediterranean Sea. He was also past president of the U.S.S. Brooklyn Reunion Association.

He and his wife, the former Evelyn M. Acquavita, were married in 1952 and would have celebrated their 64th anniversary on August 21. They traveled extensively in the US, visiting almost every state with the U.S.S. Brooklyn Assn. and had a "shipfull" of lifelong friends. They also made an unforgettable trip to Kenya to visit their grandson and his family who were living there, going on a safari and exploring the Great Rift Valley, part of the Serengeti Plain, and traveling among the herds of wild animals.

He and his wife were snowbirds and traveled every winter for the past 32 years to Florida and their beloved Settlers Rest Park. He was, of course, the "go to" person for landscaping and planting information in the Park. He also was a part of their musical family and played his Harmonica, whenever the opportunity arose. He and his wife were renowned for their dancing ability at any and every event. He will be greatly missed by his Florida Family.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Acquavita Antoszyk of Butler, his children Rosemary (Gene) Kriley of Butler, Marie (Don) Plyler of Sigel, Walter J. Antoszyk of Butler and Stephen (Terri) Antoszyk of Butler, his sister, Rose Scheetz of Groton, CT, his grandchildren Eric (Donna) Kriley of Clearwater, FL, Brad (Tanya) Kriley of Butler, Stush Antoszyk of Butler and Shelby Antoszyk of Butler, 6 great grandchildren, Julie (Devin) Blum, Alayna, Andrew, Evan, Timber and Ryder Kriley. 5 great-great grandchildren, Avalina, Devin, Kadance, Dalton and Kayleigh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 4-8 pm at Fox Funeral Home, Inc., Saxonburg, PA.

A Blessing Service will follow at 8:00 pm with Fr. Mark Pattock officiating.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Butler.
