October 21, 2017

Willard C. "Bud" Butler, a long time resident of Saxonburg, died at Concordia Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, PA on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born June 25, 1934, to Willard W. and Katherine (Uber) Butler in Grove City, PA. He was one of two children.

Bud was the devoted husband of Carrie H. (Pflugh) Butler and the beloved father of three children. He retired from II-VI, Inc. in Saxonburg after 22 years of dedicated service. A proud veteran of the US Army from 1954 to 1956, Bud had a deep love of country. He was also a humble and faithful community servant; he was on the building committee for the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, and he served as the Engineer for the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, for which he was a life member. He was also a member of Kane Lodge Number 183, Elkhart, IN, New Castle Masonic Consistory, the Saxonburg VFW, and the Saxonburg American Legion. Bud always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone whom he met, and he will be sadly missed by so many family members, friends, and former coworkers.

Bud is survived by his wife, Carrie, whom he married January 2, 1970; one daughter Glenora (Peter) Rodford of Manassas, VA; two sons W. Eric (Kristine) Butler of Saxonburg, PA and Gary A. (Ione) Butler of Burnsville, MN; five granddaughters Abigale, Hannah, Emma, Sophia, and Kristina; one grandson Jonathon; two brothers-in-law David Pflugh and Jim Alderson; two sisters-in-law Eva Pflugh and Barbara Pflugh; as well as several dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joan U. Butler; his in-laws Wilbert R. and Helen (Vensel) Pflugh; three brothers-in-law Elmer "Bill" Pflugh, Lewis Pflugh, and Harry Pflugh; and three sisters-in-law Eleanor Pflugh, Patricia Pflugh, and Edna Alderson.
