Carol S. Kaltenhauser

 It is with humble acceptance of God’s will and deep sadness that we announce the passing, on March 13, 2025, of Carol S. Kaltenhauser (nee Swanson, Capone, Oliver) after a full and rich life of love, kindness and service. 
Carol was born on February 22, 1929 to Edwin O. and Fern (Eicher) Swanson in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. After attending Drexel University, she spent 40 years as a school teacher in McKeesport, Ford City, Kittanning, and Vilsec & Aschaffenburg, Germany.  Carol’s love of music was an integral part of her life in every town or city in which she lived.  She taught piano to hundreds of local children and adults, as well as played the piano, organ and/or directed choirs her entire adult life. As the director of the Concordia choir, she directed (and sometimes wrote) 16 Easter and Christmas cantatas.
Carol’s life was always active and filled with service in many organizations, including P.E.O. Chapter A (PA), Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, NEA, PSEA, and the Book Club, Bible Studies and Lifelong Learning classes at Concordia. She loved cooking, sewing and planning special events.  She loved and was devoted to her family and was a central part of all family celebrations.
Carol was grateful to find love three times in her lifetime. She met and married her first husband, George L. Capone in Kittanning, and became the proud parents of five children, Lynn, Greg, Mary Lou, Ann and Bill.  She was reunited with a college friend, S. Roger “Snap” Oliver and they were married for 24 years. Most recently, she found wonderful happiness and love when she met Robert H. Kaltenhauser at Concordia. They were married on April 7, 2018 and have enjoyed their golden years together.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of seven years, Robert H. Kaltenhauser, Cabot;  daughter B. Lynn (Don) Miller, Ford  City, and three grandchildren Brian Atherton, Kristi (Miller) Livengood, and Angela (Miller) Krejocic; son Gregory L. (Mandi) Capone, Kittanning,  and five grandchildren, Jennifer (Capone) Turner, Jason Capone, Jessica Capone, Julie (Capone) Ohm, and Justine Capone; daughter Mary Lou (Robert “Bz”) Volchko, Poland, OH and three grandsons, Josh Volchko, Jake Volchko, and Jordan Volchko; daughter Ann L. (Bill) Bailey, Richardson, TX; son William L. (Mary Lou “Kitten”) Capone, Indiana, PA, and grandsons Nick Capone, DJ Strotman, Matt Strotman and Shannon Strotman; and her brother, Edwin O. Swanson, Zanesville, OH.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rhoda S. Laughlin, McKeesport, her brother, Robert E. Swanson, Sarasota, FL, her husband Snap, and her son-in-law, Henry E. Atherton, Kittanning.
Carol’s extended family from her five children and six step-children, 30 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and four foster children.
Carol’s life has always been characterized by her solid faith in Christ, her love of family and her love for music. Carol loved to travel, having visited all 50 states, over three dozen countries and a large number of Atlantic and Pacific islands.  She was known for playing the piano and organ, sharing nut rolls with all her neighbors, her amazing thumb-print cookies, water-color paintings, learning new things and sending cards and letters to everyone she knew.  We are confident that Carol is spending eternity with her Savior. Her great-grandson, Leo said rather poignantly "I hope God has a piano waiting for her in Heaven."
Friends will be received on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc.  Saxonburg, PA.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00 am the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church.
