James Faust, Sr. Obituary

James M. Faust Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 21, 1934, to Dallas G. Faust and Kathryn Kison Faust, Jim devoted his life to serving the Lord, his family, and his community.

Jim graduated from Butler High School before continuing his education at Penn State University, where he developed a lifelong passion for agriculture. He later earned his master’s degree from the University of Arizona, further solidifying his commitment to agricultural education and leadership.

A lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Sarver, Jim lived out his faith with steadfast dedication. He served as an elder, a member of the session, a Sunday School teacher for adults and children, and a key contributor to Bible school each summer. His commitment extended to supporting countless other programs and ministries within the church, reflecting his deep and abiding faith.

Jim was a retired Vocational Agriculture (Vo-Ag) teacher from the Knoch School District, where he inspired generations of students with his passion for farming, education, and leadership. Beyond the classroom, his influence in the agricultural community was immeasurable. He served on numerous agriculture boards and committees, including the Big Butler Fair, the Butler Farm Show, and the Butler County Conservation District. He was an active advocate and supporter of Friends of 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and the Butler County Agriculture Land Preservation Board. Jim was especially proud to have served as the former chairman of the Junior Livestock Auction, a role that embodied his commitment to fostering growth and opportunity for young farmers in the community.

While Jim was a man of faith and service, he also had a playful side that endeared him to all who knew him. His big smile and bright blue eyes lit up every room he entered, leaving an unforgettable impression on everyone he met. He was a simple, few-worded man who believed in the power of action over words, yet when he spoke, his words carried weight. His love for Oreos was legendary, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy a few with a cold glass of milk. His humor and warmth brought laughter to his family and friends, creating cherished memories that will be shared for generations.

Jim is survived by his wife, June (Seybert) Faust, whom he married November 21, 1958; his daughters, Cheryl (Harry) Hinkson of Erie and Susan (Gary) Herbert of Wexford; his daughter-in-law Celeste Faust of Butler: his brother, David Faust (late Janice) of Butler. He leaves behind a cherished legacy in his grandchildren; Julie Ross, Jacqueline (John) Peters, Heather (Mike) Laurent, Kara (Kevin) Wood, Marie (Daniel) Noah, Brittney Faust, James Noah, David Noah, Monica (Josh) Gizienski, and Aubrie Faust, as well as eight beloved great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son James Faust, Jr., his sister, Shirley Campbell-Sefton and one brother, Gary (Verna) Faust.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. the Fox Funeral Home, Inc. in Saxonburg. Funeral services to celebrate Jim’s life will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 210 Westminster Road, Sarver, PA  16055, reflecting Jim’s lifelong commitment to community and faith.

Our husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, James M. Faust Sr. will be deeply missed for his faith, service, humor, and love of family-but especially for his big smile, bright blue eyes, the Oreos he shared, and the laughter he brought with his unforgettable words.
