James “Jim” R. McCabe, 73, of Sarver, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023 after a long, brave battle with cancer. He was born at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh on April 14, 1949. He graduated from Carrick High School in 1967. He joined the United States Marine Corps that same year. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, earning the rank of corporal. During a leave back in the U.S., he met the love of his life at a dance, Marlene (Powers) McCabe. They married in 1972. Jim retired from Horsehead Industries in Monaca as a millwright in 2013.
Jim loved hunting, fishing, boating, cooking, and traveling in his RV. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marlene, his children, Tracy (Sean) Coen, Mark McCabe, Dr. Brandy (Stephen) Mechling, Joelene (Robert) Gray, Nicole McCabe, Landon McCabe, Amiah McCabe, Abby McCabe, Maria Beistel, and grandchildren, Ashelyn, Rianna, Derek, Emma, Katelyn, Kayleb, Elijah, Xander, and Brynndalyn. He is also survived by his sisters Sebilla (Butch) Czapko, Janet (Ed) Bubenheim, Karen (Michael) Gegick, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother. Alicia (O’Connor), father, Ralph McCabe, and daughter, Jennie McCabe.
While Jim had many roles: husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, he was also a volunteer Santa Claus. He spent many years spreading laughter and joy as Santa.
Friends will be received on Friday, April 14, 2023 at from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc. Saxonburg. PA . Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
