James D. Schmook, 85, of Cabot and Saxonburg, peacefully passed to go home to be with his Lord and Savour on May 7, 2025 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital surrounded by his loving family and was aware of their presence and love. He was born on June 22, 1939 in Scottdale, PA to Emerson and Helen (Podgorski) Schmuck.
Jim was a 1957 graduate of Southmoreland High School, where he played football and where he met his soulmate and the love of his life, Eleanor J. Weisel. They married on July 15, 1958 and shared a full and loving life for 62 years until Eleanor passed away on March 26, 2020. Jim was a born-again Christian with a strong love, trust, and faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He attended the Hannahstown Baptist Church in Cabot.
Jim began his adult life as a bag boy at Acme Supermarket and quickly rose to the store manager. He settled in Cabot, and then began working at Armco Steel in the Melt Shop. After 30 years, he retired in 2000. He enjoyed vacationing in his home in the Villages, Florida, buying cars, fixing things, going to flea markets, riding motorcycles, buying at auctions, attending high school football games, camping, traveling, and spending time with family. Jim was quite a character, always laughing, teasing, joking and telling stories! He remained positive and eager for his next big plans until his final days.
He is survived by his four children: Diane (Keith) Frndak of Cabot, Sharon (Curt) Blakley of Colerain, NC, Jim (Amy Miller)Schmook of Cabot, and David (Christina) Schmook of Milltown, IN, his four grandchildren: Karen (Anthony) Beilstein, Kristen (Devin) Michel, Leonard Schmook and Sophia Schmook, five great-grandchildren: Adalyn Beilstein, Jeremiah Beilstein, Lindy Michel, Layne Behe and Kaydn Frndak, as well as his loving and faithful dog, Chloe. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Audrey Gratzinger, Chuck (Julie Kunkle) Schmook, Carolyn (Wayne) Wescoe, and Ronald (Kathy) Schmuck. His father, mother, his loving wife, as well as many other dogs over the years preceded him in death.
