James Yough Obituary

It is with profound sadness, yet unwavering faith that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James M. Yough, who entered into eternal rest on April 1., 2025 at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Born December 7, 1930 in his beloved East Brady, he was the son of Alfred Yough Sr. and Evelyn Foust Yough.

James was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.  He was a man of true integrity and kindness.  He lived a life that honored his faith and relationship with God and he was a steadfast disciple, taking advantage of every opportunity to share His words and teachings.  He was a member of Jefferson Center Presbyterian Church.

James Served in the US Army during the Korean War. He proudly wore his veteran baseball cap, just about everywhere he went.  He was humbled an honored when people would stop to shake his hand and thank him for his service.  He would make a new friend everywhere he went and he had a natural ability to talk to people and make connections with people that often just awed and amazed his family.

He was a 6th grade school teacher, serving the South Butler School District for 35 years at Jefferson and Saxonburg Elementary schools.  He enjoyed collecting model trains and spent hours setting up and running his train board.  He and his wife loved traveling to Lancaster County for frequent visits to explore the beauty and simplicity of the countryside there.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty M. Stauffer Yough, whom he married May 18th, 1962. This began a love story that has endured for 63 years.  He would still reach for her hand to get a smile out of her every chance he could get and the set a wonderful example of what marriage and family should be.  He will forever be cherished by his children; Patrick Yough of Yardley, PA, Mary (Paul) Kochick of Saxonburg, Karen Yough of Saxonburg, Matthew Yough of Butler, and Deborah Yough of Sarver.  He was a loving and doting grandfather to Aaron (Victoria) Kochick, Allison (Brian) Fogle, Ryan (Kelly) Kochick. He was blessed to have five great-grandchildren as well; Abel, Abigail, Hayden, Finlay, and Josey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; John (Jack)Yough, and Alfred (Butch)Yough , Jr.
