Leonard L. Haney, 88 of Saxonburg, passed on 9/12/2022 with his sons by his side. He courageously fought Bile Duct cancer for nearly a year. Born on March 10, 1934 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Leonard and Mildred (Smith) Haney. He was a graduate of Peabody High School.
He was an Army Veteran as a Morse Code radio operator.
He had a special musical talent of playing the guitar and loved to write, sing, mix, and create Country Western songs, with 1 that was sang and produced by Stoney Brooks and played on the radio.
He had a passion for making wine that he loved sharing with family and friends.
He especially enjoyed going to the Saxonburg Cafe Contrary for breakfast and talking/joking with friends, family, and the staff.
Not one to be inside, you could always find him outside working in the yard or tinkering on something in garage. There wasn't anything he couldn't make out of scraps of wood and a staple gun.
In his younger years, he was an exceptional baseball player and was given a try-out as a pitcher with the Pirates, but was drafted by the Army instead.
Leonard retired from Clinton Township as a Supervisor and Roadmaster after more than 25 years. He was instrumental in revitalizing the old US Steel property into the productive Victory Road Business Park.
Preceded in death by parents Mildred and Leonard, brother Todd Haney (2017), and wife Nancy (2014).
Survived by sisters Linda Morece and Patricia Weingartner, sons Leonard (Kristen) of Leonardtown MD and Jeffrey of Saxonburg, and grandchildren Lauren, Tyler, Tanner, and Spencer Haney of Saxonburg, and Kendall and Kiley Haney of MD.
