Lois Ann Miller Dunbar of Butler passed away peacefully at Concordia Nursing Center on March 9. She was born in Fawn Township, PA to William and Mabel Miller on February 16, 1931. She was a graduate of Tarentum High School Class of 1949. Lois married her partner of over 70 years Paul H. Dunbar on June 1, 1951.
Her core mission in life was her work at her church, Bull Creek Presbyterian Church in Tarentum, PA where she was a lifelong member. Over the years, she servedas a Sunday School teacher, Women’s Association member, a Deacon and an Elder. Her passion was her involvement with the work in the Women’s Association, and the many fellowship activities such as dinners, soup sales, apple dumpling sales and other church fundraising events.
Mrs. Dunbar was also involved for many years with Tanglewood Senior Center where she served on the Board of Directors and supported many events for the Community. Her time spent at Tanglewood combined her love of friendship, laughter, and dancing with Paul.
Lois Ann had many joys in her life – flowers, sewing, knitting, the birds on the deck, Pittsburgh sports teams and her love of Dairy Queen.
She lived most of her life in Penn Township and was a member of the Penn Township Women’s Club.
She will lovingly be remembered by her husband of 69 years Paul, and four daughters: Sherrie Grottenthaler (David), Lauren Somple (John), Marci Turner (Ted) and Linda Brennan. Mrs. Dunbar had nine grandchildren: Britain, Evan, Trenton, Kennedy, Mallory, Chase, Connor, Lillian and Tom. Mrs. Dunbar is survived by one brother Melvin Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Charles Miller.
The funeral will be private with interment at Bull Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mars Home for Youth Foundation in Mars, PA.
