Paul Dunbar Obituary

Paul Howard Dunbar of Butler passed away peacefully at Concordia of Cranberry Assisted Living on June 13, 2024.  He was born in Valencia, PA to Howard and Rozella Dunbar on January 4, 1930.  Paul married Lois Ann Miller on June 1, 1951. They were married for 69 years prior to her passing in March 2021.
He graduated from Mars High School in 1948.  He lived his whole life in Penn Township.   Mr. Dunbar worked at ARMCO Steel in Butler for 41 ½ years in the melt shop retiring in 1991.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war as a Radioman aboard Tank Landing Ship (LST) 664, homeported in Little Creek, VA.  He was a member of Bull Creek Presbyterian Church in Tarentum, PA where he served unselfishly in every capacity including as a Trustee and an Elder.  Mr. Dunbar volunteered with Tanglewood Senior Center where he served on the Board of Directors, represented the Center in civic matters, promoted many events and enjoyed countless hours of friendship, music and good food.
Paul was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, and was often found with his TV remote control and his green coffee mug.
Mr. Dunbar spent his final years at Concordia of Cranberry.  The staff and nurses were professional, so kind and devoted to his emotional and physical needs.   The family cannot speak highly enough of his Team – as well as the extremely caring individuals from Grane Hospice Care.  Our gratitude is beyond words.
He is survived by four daughters:  Sherrie Grottenthaler (David), Lauren Somple (John), Marci Turner (Ted) and Linda Brennan.  Mr. Dunbar had nine grandchildren:  Britain (Kenny), Evan, Trenton, Kennedy, Mallory (Andrew), Chase, Connor, Lillian and Tom.  He had one great grandson, Connor.  Paul was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother Thomas Dunbar.
The funeral will be June 21 at Bull Creek Presbyterian Church, 224 Tarentum Culmerville Road, Tarentum,  with visitation at 10:00, service at 11:00 and private interment at Bull Creek Cemetery immediately following.  Memorial donations may be made to the Glade Run Lake Conservancy.  Arrangements made by Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg, PA.
