In memory of Raymond Eugene Matson of Butler. August 9, 1927 to June 9, 2022.
Born August 9, 1927 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late Darrell R. Matson and Helen Clara Vinroe Matson.
Ray worked in the Melt Shop of the Butler Armco Steel plant from 1945 until he retired 44 years later in 1989. He was a proud member of the Butler Armco Independent Union.
As an avid Blue Grass music lover, accomplished at playing by ear on the harmonica, he loved to jam with his friends at Bluegrass Festivals. He also loved bowling, working out and socializing at the YMCA. He served his community as a Volunteer Fireman for South Butler Township.
He was known for his sense of humor and could tell a joke better than anyone. He was sweet, kind, funny and loving. We will miss him dearly.
He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
Raymond leaves behind his three daughters, Rayma Elliott, Pamela Forcht, and Sharon Moore, seven grandchildren, Rodger, Ryan, Jeremy, Selena, Alex, Jenny and Breann and 11 great-grandchildren, Lydia, Audrey, Molly, Becky, Sid, Stephen, Lycia, Harrison, Charlotte, Denver and Natalia.
Waiting to greet him in heaven are his parents, two brothers, James Matson and Kenneth Matson, three sisters, Alice Stewart, Wanda Beck and Carol Mincer, also his recently departed grandson, Jason Criley.
Following Ray's wishes, there will be no visitation. A small private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.
A special thanks to the Lowrie Place and Hope Hospice for the care they gave dad.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
