Roland "Bud" Weckerly, 90 of Butler passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Allegheny General Hospital.
Born May 1, 1933 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late Albert Weckerly and Helen Kepple Weckerly.
Bud was a graduate of Penn Township High School, where he won the State Championship for basketball his senior year in high school. He retired from Armco where he was employed for over 30 years in the labor department. He was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, Butler, where he was a deacon, a member of the choir, volunteered for many activities and arranged a yearly church corn roast which started in 1943 and is still ongoing. He loved singing and recorded himself during the Covid pandemic so it could be played for people who were quarantined and in isolation. Many nurses called him their "singing strength" and he was featured in an article in the Butler Eagle. He was also a member of the William H. Miller Lodge #769, New Castle Consistory and a member of the Syria Shrine. Bud was a lifelong dairy farmer who loved his John Deere tractors. He enjoyed hunting, target shooting, and dancing. Bud was accepting and had love for everyone. He always said "it is what it is."
Surviving are his wife, Zoanne Stoughton Weckerly, who he married September 15, 1993, his children, Diane Brennan of Butler, Tim Weckerly (Bill DeBow) of Longmont, CO, Susan (Randy) Slupe of Butler, and Stacey (Brian) Heider of Butler, 4 grandchildren; Lewis (Michelle) Murray of St. Mary's, PA, Crystal Murray of Butler, Dalton Slupe of Butler, and Austin Slupe of Butler, 2 great grandchildren, Lucas Murray and Grace Mackievich, his step daughter, Melanie (John) Rogers of Birmingham, AL and his brother, Dr. William (Sheila) Weckerly of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Leona "Jean" (Callahan) Weckerly, son, Daniel Weckerly, brother, Ken Weckerly, sister, Kathryn L. Jones, and son in law, Frank Brennan.
Friends will be received on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc., 410 W. Main Street, Saxonburg.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson Street, Butler, with Rev. Merry Meloy officiating. Everyone please meet at the church.
