Russell L. Doerr, 84, of Sarver, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, while surrounded by his family, at the Allegheny Valley Hospital. Russ was born in Saxonburg on September 22, 1938, son of the late Ralph J. and Virginia (Johnston) Doerr. He was the widower of Lois (Simpson) Doerr who passed away in 2019.
Russ was a 1956 graduate of Freeport High School, although he only attended Freeport for his last years of high school. Russ retired from Penn United Technologies in Cabot where he was the press room supervisor. He previously worked at Oberg Industries and Du-Co Ceramics Company.
His greatest loves were his family, his dog and best buddy Parker, who was always by his side for the last four years. He loved his grandkids and was so proud of each of them and was always their biggest fan. Russ enjoyed sitting on the back porch during the summer watching the grandkids in the pool or watching a baseball game on TV, spending time with his friends, and going out for lunch and cocktails most days. Before his wife's passing, Russ and Lois enjoyed their Floral Design Specialties business in Sarver, flower and vegetable gardening, traveling, and most of all spending time with their children and grandchildren. Russ and Lois were married 59 wonderful years. Lois was the love of his life and he has missed her dearly so we take comfort that they have been reunited.
Russ is survived by his son, Chris, and Hallie Doerr of South Buffalo Twp. and daughter, Heather, and Mike Collins of Sarver. His four grandkids, Julie, Natalie, and Christopher Doerr, and Mallory Collins. Russ also is survived by his sister, Linda Zema, sister-in-laws Doris Doerr and Beverly Doerr, and numerous nieces and nephews that he was very close to. In addition to his beloved wife Lois, parents, and in-laws, Russ is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and John "Jack" Doerr.
Friends will be received on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 1:00-4:30 pm at the Fox Funeral Home, Inc. in Saxonburg. Funeral Services will follow at 4:30 pm with J. Paul McCracken officiating. Interment will be in the Sarverville Cemetery.
